Program Purpose:

The Cherokee Street CID Window Repair Grant Program is a public benefit initiative funded through the Cherokee Street Community Improvement District to support the economic vitality, public safety, and visual character of the Cherokee Street commercial corridor.

Damaged or boarded windows detract from the pedestrian experience, signal disinvestment, and can accelerate deterioration of the broader commercial environment — affecting not just individual property owners but the district as a whole. By providing timely financial assistance for window repair and replacement, this program serves the public interest by:

  • Maintaining an attractive and welcoming streetscape for residents and visitors
  • Deterring further vandalism and criminal activity associated with visible signs of neglect
  • Supporting small business continuity and reducing the financial burden of unexpected damage on district stakeholders
  • Preserving the economic health and long-term stability of the Cherokee Street commercial corridor

Program Guidelines:

Grants are awarded exclusively for repairs to windows visible from the public right-of-way, in alignment with the CID's mandate to fund improvements that generate a demonstrable community-wide benefit. All expenditures are subject to board oversight and are consistent with the Cherokee Street CID's broader mission of fostering a vibrant, safe, and thriving commercial district.

This program reimburses eligible applicants for up to 50% of the cost of window repair or replacement, with a maximum grant amount of $500 per application. Repairs may be completed before or after submitting this application. However, grant payment will only be issued once work is complete and a copy of a paid invoice has been submitted.

Grant funds may not be used to reimburse costs already covered by an insurance claim. Applicants who receive insurance reimbursement for the same repair after a grant has been issued are required to notify the Cherokee Street CID and return any duplicate funds.
